Here at D&J Apiary, we not only sell all of the supplies you’ll need to be a successful beekeeper, but we also offer beekeeping classes for those interested in gaining the knowledge and insight of three generations of beekeepers. We offer Beginners Beekeeping Classes, Hive Management Classes, and an Extracting class at various times throughout the year. These classes are a one day, Saturday class with both in classroom and hands on portions and generally run from 9am until 3pm. Most classes are $75 per person and include a catered lunch. Please call the office to inquire about dates and times for classes.

Mite Check Tutorial
Summer is approaching, and this is the critical time of year when the mite population can quickly out number your bee population if it goes unchecked. The most effective way of checking for mites is the Alcohol wash. Yes I know, it requires killing a sample of approximately 300 bees, however this is better than losing an entire hive to mite damage.
Below is a link to a video that explains the process. This particular video is from New Jersey but it gives an accurate explanation of the entire process. Video credit: Northwest New Jersey Beekeepers Association
